22 April, 2012 Notes from Ayurveda conferences with Dr. L'Acharya Sudakar Powar, part 1. Brussels 2012
How to live Ayurveda in Belgium by Ramona Rouhdoust I will share my notes from last Ayurveda conference, on Sunday April 22 in the 2 coming blogs. What is Veda or Ayurveda and how much do we really know about it? How can we live Ayurveda in Belgium? The exact time of the origin of Ayurveda is not clearly known. After a Mantra opening this was starting point , the evolution of Ayurveda . He explained that in early days there were no text or hardly anything was written about it and how this knowledge was passed on from Vedas, ancient doctrines of great knowledge on earth to students. Ayurveda is not a merely medical system or a medical kit. It is like sacred science of life. It helps the human being to lead a happy life with pure mind by providing the whole information about it. So the origin of Ayurveda is not clearly known. But according to information from ancient texts, we can say that, Ayurveda is an ancient and higher knowledge which supports human being to lead a happy life in natural way. Man, by nature is a complex being of physical, biological, mental and spiritual factors. He is the subject matter of Ayurveda and in him alone knowledge, delusion, pleasure, pain, birth, death, and love of self are co-existent. To establish the equilibrium between human nature and his environment in a comprehensive manner, Ayurveda has developed the necessary principles and practices. Dr. Sudakar Powar explained the theory behind Dorshas and how we can create imbalance in our energetical pathways by eating wrong nutricians. He stated that we have to first understand and agree the first principal and philosophy of Ayurveda that we all are connectde and come from the same source and origin, the light! Ayurveda is the key to all creations, an universal energy that nurishing us All. Than he breifly explained the three Doshas or energies in Ayurveda: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha These dynamic energies manifest in the body through their qualities, specific sites, and the active roles they play in orchestrating the processes that create and sustain the body. In other words, they are the energies that make things happen in the organism. Ultimately, any aspect related to metabolic function and its relationship to health and disease boils down to the harmonious actions of the three doshas. Every cell in our body has to contain all three of these principles. To remain alive, our body has to have Vata, or motion, which allows it to breathe, circulate blood, pass food through the digestive tract, and send nerve impulses to and from the brain. VATA: The Energy of Movement or wind Vata is in charge of functions such as the pulsation of the heart, respiration, circulation and elimination. It is responsible for joy, happiness, creativity and speech. Vata is also in charge of the vital life essence, or prana. Thus when vata (prana) leaves the body, life ceases. Vata is Cold, light, dry, irregular, rough, moving, quick, changeable. PITTA: The Energy of Digestion and Metabolism Pitta represents the Fire principle in the body. Everything that enters the body must be "digested" and assimilated, from sensory perception to food for nourishment. In addition to the gastric fire, pitta also includes the enzymes and amino acids that play a major role in metabolism, and even the neurotransmitters and neuropeptides involved in thinking. Some of the responsibilities of pitta are to regulate the body heat through the chemical transformation of food and to give a person appetite, vitality, and the capacity to learn and understand. Pitta is hot, sharp, light, oily, liquid, and spreading in nature. It is sour, bitter, pungent to the taste, and has a fleshy smell. These qualities are revealed in the body of the pitta person, as shown in the chart of pitta attributes. Kapha ; Cohasion and structur energy Earth and Water give kapha its definitive qualities. Kapha comprises all our cells, tissues and organs. Kapha molecules tend to stick together to form dense masses. Kapha is heavy, slow, cool, oily, liquid, hard, smooth its element is water, cohasion energy, Upperpart of body, first part of digestion, early morning , early evening is predominant of this energy and have kapha rythm.. He also gave many tips and suggestion that cost us virtually nothing yet can have profound effects. In the next blog I will share with you ways Dr Powar proposed that we all can do easily to reconnect us with the inner healer that Ayurveda seeks to awaken. Namasté
