Drushti is the Quality of our awareness, is spacious and encompassing Bandha is the Quality of our energy and relates to Fire.
Asana is the Quality of our posture and relates to Earth, while Pranayama is the Quality of our breathing (Air) and Vinyasa is the Quality of our movement relating to Water. When we practice Yoga we gradually learn to include the elements above.
The Bandha teach us about how we use our energy and we need energy in order to live happier lives, in order to have clarity of mind (keeping ones Centre), in order to simply digest food and even information. The Water element allows us to learn trust in the flow of life with its ups and downs. Water is nourishing, healing, moistening, and at its cleanest, when it flows! Like your body. It too needs the right amount of movement, so it does not stagnate and smell putrid!! The Asana are all about posture practice and again, we all know how we feel when our bodies (and minds) are open and upright with ease. Better! Dynamic alignment in Posture practice will bring foundation. Foundation is to be taken seriously, as anyone knows, who wants to kick start a new project. With Posture practice we learn about and internalise our innate ability to feel grounded, solid, well placed in space and time. Life becomes less of a struggle.
Pranayama is the art of breathing and simply said, the way we breath is an expression of how we feel, of what energetic state we might be in and by engaging with various types of breathing we re-charge who we are, re-charge our sense of Self, inner authority and clarity of boundaries. And, since breathing connects us to the rest of creation, we can feel, at the same time, more connected to it.
Drushti is the presence of Awareness. Imagine eating the most delicious food whilst watching TV at the same time and at the end you and I wonder where the food has gone!! Life likes simplicity and Awareness practices are a key, a must, to be part of the rich inner flow of mother life. How do we know when we truly have had enough of food, a relationship, holidays or work? The flow of Awareness.
